We thoroughly enjoyed all the magnificent scenery while driving on the Million Dollar Highway from Ridgway to Silverton.

There weren’t many options for things to do in Silverton, so we decided to do their most popular activities: touring the Old Hundred Gold Mine and Mayflower Mill. Instead of taking an elevator down into the mine, like we did in Cripple Creek, we rode in a mining cart through a long tunnel to get into it. It was still an interesting tour, even though we had heard much of the same information before.

It’s pretty cool that they’ve kept all the equipment in the processing mill for people to see. It was a self-guided tour, with lots of signs to read to try to understand how it all worked. I would have preferred to have someone just explain it all to us, but we were able to get the gist of it, I think. It was a huge, complicate process to get the precious metals extracted from the rock ore. It’s amazing how people figured out how they could use gravity and flotation to separate out the various types of metal.

Randy I shared a BBQ brisket meal at Thee Pitts Again for dinner so that we’d have room for dessert at the Rocky Mountain Funnel Cake Factory. Neither disappointed! The pecan praline funnel cake was probably my favorite thing I’ve eaten since we started RVing.
