We finally got to Louisiana and stopped for one night at Sam Houston Jones State Park in Lake Charles. Once we got settled in, we decided to hike the 1.6 miles Riverwalk Trail since the trailhead was just down the road from the RV. The trees were so thick and the river so calm, it took us a while to realize that we already walking beside the river. There were a few areas cleared enough to see the river, as well as some really nice homes backing up to it. After seeing so many clear water rivers in Colorado, the Calcasieu River looked super muddy to me. But it was still a pretty area and a nice trail. The campground was also near a swampy cypress area, which looked cool too.
On the recommendation of a friend who used to live in Lake Charles, we ate dinner at Bill’s Steamboat Seafood and enjoyed it. Then we headed back to the RV to get a good night sleep!
