Once we finally wiggled into our tight spot at Three Lakes RV Resort, we settled in for a three night stay. While lubing our slide-outs, I noticed there were some bolts and other metal pieces under the fifth wheel that were starting to rust; I think camping and driving so near the salt water probably made them start corroding. I rubbed the lube on all the rusty spots, hoping it will prevent it from getting worse. I’ll need to look into what else needs to be done with that, I guess.
We visited Weeki Wachee Springs State Park one day to see the Little Mermaid show (Hans Christian Andersen’s version, not Disney). The park started as a commercial roadside attraction in 1947, but with the opening of Disney World, it became less popular. It eventually opened back up as a state park. They had a cool little theater, with steps down to the stage that had windows underwater, to see actors swimming. They had hoses to breath oxygen when needed. I thought the scene changes were clever, with the windows getting covered with bubbles so we couldn’t see what was going on. I think Randy described the show well, saying it was “delightfully cheesy”.
We also took a river boat tour, listened to a ranger talk about turtles, snakes and alligators, and walked around looking at the park’s Christmas decorations.

After leaving the state park, we drove around Hudson a bit. There were lots of homes built right on the water’s edge, with channels for boats to sail right up to the house’s personal dock. Some of the homes even had garages with a boat ramp in them, which I thought was cool. We also stopped at the Hudson Beach Ice Cream Parlor for a treat. It was ranked #7 for best 10 ice cream shops in Florida one year and it did not disappoint. It was yummy!

The campground was nice, with lots of activities available. As we walked around the campground one evening, we met a couple who invited us to play pickle ball the next night. We took it easy the next day, Randy enjoying the pool while I did some programming/work, then we joined the pickle ball group after dinner. There were two courts with a few extra people rotating in, so it was fun meeting a bunch of different people. Everyone was very welcoming and nice to us. Unfortunately, I twisted my knee after playing about an hour and had to stop playing. It wasn’t terrible, but it hurt enough for me to not want to push it. Plus I didn’t want to make it any worse with all the walking we’d need to do at Disney a few days later.
