We weren’t sure how late we would be picking up the RV on Sunday, so we reserved a nearby Boondockers Welcome place, Paradise in Chesterville, in Arthur, IL. A very nice couple greeted us and even gave us a bag of popcorn, since they had just popped some. They didn’t care what time we left the next day, so before hitching up, we drove to Yoder’s Kitchen for their breakfast buffet, which was good, but nothing exceptional.

I saw on their Facebook page that they donated 800 lbs of cheese to the Arthur Amish Country Cheese Festival which was happening that day, for a Labor Day celebration. We decided to drive into town to see what it was like, then found a close enough parking space to stop and check it out. Turns out, we hung around long enough for Randy to compete in the Cheese Curd Spitting Contest! He got three spits, with his longest being about 18′ (winning distance was about 25′, so not too bad for his first ever spitting contest!)

As Randy was registering, the guy asked where we were from and when Randy told him CO, he asked what in the world we were doing in Arthur, IL. Then when he introduced Randy to spit, he said he’d come all the way from CO to compete, haha. It was definitely a small town, but It was a convenient overnight stop and a fun way to spend a few hours before hitching up and hitting the road again!

Just to document, since we don’t a photo to warrant a separate post… To split up the drive to Louisville, KY, we stopped in Eberfield, IN and stayed at Miles Landing Campground for one night. Our GPS didn’t do so great getting us to this one — before turning down the dirt road it was telling us to turn on, we called the campground and got better directions. Turns out, Garmin was trying to avoid a low weight “bridge” that didn’t seem to exist. Perhaps it would have eventually gotten us to where we needed to go, but I was glad to have the more straightforward directions and to not collapse a bridge in the process!
