We spent four nights boondocking at a Boondockers Welcome (BW) site in Fort White called Emerald Oaks Farm. This is the third BW place we’ve done and it was another pleasant experience! There was a large, wide path around a pond where LOTS of RVs could fit. I think there were about 6 or 7 there at one point and room for others. They provided a dump station with water, too, which was nice. The host was laid back, saying we could wander around, so Randy and I walked along a trail through the woods that he had cleared. We stopped to talk to one couple from Minnesota who were out playing cards. It was interesting to hear him tell stories of growing up on an island in the lakes and traveling around the area by boat (except when the lakes were frozen and they could drive their car back and forth).

I finally got back into the groove of doing some programming work, so we didn’t do too much at this location. One evening we drove into Gainesville to see “Murder for Two” at The Hippodrome Theatre. It was a cute musical with only two actors. One was the detective and the other played everyone else, so that was funny. I was impressed by their piano skills, too. Walking around Gainesville on a Friday night, with lots of college kids hanging out at bars and restaurants gave the town an energetic feeling, which was fun.

And one day, we took advantage of the sunny, high 70s weather and went to the Ichetucknee State Park. We tubed for about 1.5 hrs down the spring fed Ichetucknee River. I liked how clear the water was. The turtles must really like it, too! At first, we were excited to see a few turtles sunning on fallen trees, but by the end our enthusiasm had wained, since we had seen so many. No alligator sitings, though, which I guess is a good thing while we were actually in the water. The park had a tram that ran from the parking lot to the drop off and pick up spots, too, so that made it super convenient, especially since we lucked out with the timing in both directions, so no wait!
