We only had to drive an hour to get to Rock Island State Park, where we stayed three nights.

On the first full day, we drove Cristy Herman around in our truck to look at homes, since Randy didn’t care to climb in and out of her two door Jeep all day.

  • 798 Bilbrey Rd, Rickman, TN 38580 – This house had a good floor plan, but the land was not private enough for Randy. Even so, we kept it as our 2nd choice of the day.
  • 7050 Hilham Rd, Cookeville, TN 38506 – The farm land type lot with some drainage issues eliminated this home.
  • 2034 Foster Circle, Cookeville – Nope, not private enough for Randy. I’m guessing we won’t bother seeing anything under 5 acres after today, given feedback from Randy.
  • 5473 Hickey Ridge Rd, Baxter, TN 38544 – We didn’t eliminate this one, but it ended up as our 3rd choice of the day. A cute house, but both the house and lot are smaller than what Randy is looking for. Neither of us totally like the feel of having so much farm land all around us, either, but there isn’t really anything wrong with it.
  • 1800 Brookdale Ave, Cookeville, TN 38506 – Even though this was only 1.55 acres, we liked the lot at the end of a cul-de-sac, surrounded by trees. It didn’t have an attached garage, but had an above ground pool. We would need to do a good bit of renovation to this home, including the front exterior and expanding the master bedroom and closet. We really liked basement layout, with a theater room, game room and weight room. This became our top choice of the day, but mostly because of the lack of other choices.
  • 2274 John Lawson Rd, McMinnville, TN 37110 – We liked the house, but not the land. The left side is treed, with an easement for a road to go past the house to another lot. The right side is farm land, that will be planted and harvested regularly and is a deal breaker for us.
  • 2924 Wheeler Rd, McMinnville, TN 37110 – Nope, we liked the look of the area, but homes aren’t private enough.

Tennessee is 2 for 2 with their state parks so far! We enjoyed exploring the park and seeing several amazing waterfalls! We hiked the Blue Hole and Downstream Trails, as well as stopping at the Historic Cotton Mill and Spring House. It’s a beautiful area!

We also ate at the nearby Foglight Foodhouse, which was recommended by the realtor. It had some unique, but delicious, menu items and we both enjoyed it!
