We stayed at Raccoon Mountain Caverns and Campground for 5 nights while we did some sight seeing around Chattanooga.
After seeing some of the other spectacular caverns during our travels, the caverns leading up to Ruby Falls were just ok. But seeing the falls itself made the trip worth it! It had rained the day or two before, so the amount of water falling was high. The room and water were lit up with color changing lights that were pretty, too. I’m glad we did it, but I wouldn’t want to spend the money to go back too often.

At the recommendation of our guide, we went to The Tap House for lunch. They were slow taking our order and bringing the food, but it tasted good at least. From there, we went to Rock City, which was very pretty and definitely worth seeing. It felt a bit crowded, but I’m guessing it gets way worse than it was while we were there.

Since it was raining when we looked at the house in Athens, we did not walk around the property much and the owners, the Healey’s, invited us to come back later to see it. When we told him we’d like to take him up on the offer, they invited us to join them for Easter dinner, haha. The wife told us the story of when they were new in the area at Thanksgiving time and how much they appreciated someone invited them for dinner, so she wanted to do the same. We decided “why not” and accepted the offer. We visited RockPoint Church for their Easter service, then picked up a Chantilly cake from Whole Foods, then drove about 40 minutes up to Athens. The entire family was very hospitable. They had two older sons, each with girlfriends, and we all walked around their 30 acres of property. We even met one of the neighbors, who was also extremely friendly, too. We had a great time visiting and eating with them and were glad we decided “why not”! The property is great, too, but it’s more expensive than we were hoping to find, so we’re not ready to pull the trigger on it yet. If we don’t find anything we like better, though, it’s a top contender!
One day, we put our bikes on the truck and drove to the Blue Goose Trailhead, then rode our bikes along the Riverwalk. There were a couple of places where we stopped to get a closer look at some art being displayed. And we took a break to eat an early dinner at Public House, which was delicious. I had the stuffed quail on grits, which had a sweet sauce on top that made it super tasty. From there we headed back to the truck. The weather had been perfect for a bike ride and there was lots to see along our route, so we both really enjoyed the day near/in downtown Chattanooga!

As we drove in and out of the campground, we could see a nearby creek and small waterfall through the trees. It was close enough to walk to from the campground, so we decided to check it out. Once we got there, we noticed there were actually marked trails through the woods, so we explored a bit and enjoyed the sound of the falls while we walked. So nice!
