The weather was awesome when we arrived at the North Sterling State Park, and we enjoyed sitting outside near the lake. Unfortunately, we must have missed a place on the roof where sealant needed patching, because Randy noticed ripples in the rubber membrane, where air must have gotten under it as we were driving and caused it to bubble up. I sealed up the holes in the seams to avoid rain damage and will add that to the list of things to have the RV dealer look at when we drop it off for service in a few days. I’m not sure what the difference is between CO and other places, but we didn’t see nearly as many impressive sunsets or rainbows elsewhere. It was a nice welcome back to be greeted with such a beautiful evening.
BUT, that same night, the weather turned pretty fierce, with lightening all around then tornado warnings. We decided to drive over to the restrooms/shelter just in case the tornado got too close to us, but ended up staying in the truck and enjoying the lightening show. I didn’t like the hail hitting the truck, but it was small enough to not cause any damage. Then the next day was clear again and we hiked a mile or two along the reservoir.

On Sunday, we enjoyed the service at Sterling Foursquare Church then ate Chinese at the Wonderful House Restaurant, which was also good. After lunch, we drove around town in search of the Bradford Rhea Tree Sculptures. In the 1980s, Bradford had the idea to make sculptures out of trees that died after a hard winter. When some started to erode, people around town raised money to have many of them bronzed. They also moved a few indoors to save the original wood carvings. Because of all the tree sculptures, 17 total, Sterling has become known as the City of Living Trees (which seems ironic, since the trees are dead, but oh well).
After driving around town, we decided to stop for an Ice Cream Sundae at Simkins Parlour, since they had a buy one, get one deal for Sundaes on Sundays. Yum!
