We were a bit worried as we got close to Cummins Ferry RV Resort & Campground, since the road was super narrow, hilly and curvy. But we passed the road that said “No RVs” and followed instructions and signs to assure us we were going to the right place. Once we got down to the campground gate, it was fine. They stressed their checkin and checkout times, to try to prevent two RVs from meeting on the road, which was a great idea! I didn’t even enjoy riding in the truck without the fifth wheel on the narrow roads, which evidently are pretty common in that part of KY. But the area is beautiful. We did the campground hike along the river one day to admire the beauty!

Wouldn’t you know the time I have plans to head out soon after unhitching and setting up, the people around us are super friendly. We talked to the couple on one side of us for a while, then as we walked over to our door side, that couple started up a conversation, haha. We enjoyed talking to them both and were just a few hours later getting to the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill than planned, but not a big deal. They were hosting the KY Heritage Jazz Festival, so we thought that’d be a nice way to spend the evening. We got there about an hour before the village closed down, so we hurried around to see some of the buildings and exhibits. I knew about Shaker Style Furniture and Cabinets but had never thought about its history, coming from a religious movement in the 1800s called the Shakers. It was interesting history to learn. Afterwards, we grabbed some BBQ from a food truck and found a spot for our picnic blanket to listen to live Jazz music while we ate. The temperature was great, which made the evening even more enjoyable.

On another day, we did some sight seeing around Lexington, starting at the Kentucky Horse Park, which was more interesting than I expected. We heard lots of stories about retired race horses and met a few of them. We learned the difference between pacers and trotters, too. I had never realized horses had different ways of moving their legs when running. The Kentucky Hunter Jumper Association’s Fall Classic was going on, too, which was kind of fun to watch for a while.
We stopped at the Lexington Visitors Center and got a brochure for doing a walking tour around town. We just did part of it before stopping at Agave & Rye restaurant for some wacky flavored, over stuffed, hard to eat but yummy tacos.
I had seen a review that recommended sitting in the audience for a livestream of a band at the Red Barn Radio, so we decided to give it a try. They feature a different band each Wednesday evening; Shannon Clark and the Sugar happened to be the band playing the night we were there. They were really good and we enjoyed listening to them.
