Once Jennifer, the realtor to show us homes around Chattanooga and northern GA heard we had an offer on a home and wanted to see a few others before we received a counter offer, she made arrangements for us to go out looking the afternoon we arrived at the Holiday Travel Park of Chattanooga, where we stayed for four nights. It ended up being a good location — easy to get in and out of and close to a lot of stuff to do but not too noisy. Nothing special about the campsites, but convenient.
Here are the homes we saw:
- 2nd Choice – 210 Wildfire Dr. Ringgold, GA 30736, $997K, 3703sf, 15.08ac, 2023. This was the house that I was eager to see since it looked so good on “paper”. The photos had not lied, the house was gorgeous; but we had to go through a neighborhood that wasn’t as nice, then up a pretty steep hill at the end of a cul de sac. So, unfortunately, the location wasn’t appealing. Plus there was lots of construction debris around edge of wooded area even though it had been on the market for over a month. We got enough of a negative vibe about working with the seller, along with the not-so-appealing location that this didn’t end up being a top choice, even with the awesome house.
- NO. 1853 Trickum Road Rd, ROCKY FACE, GA 30740, $825K, 4355sf, 5ac, 2015. Could see neighbors more than Randy prefers. The large, shaped pool was impressive, plus they had a bathroom, kitchen & storage on outside edge of house for outdoor use. We didn’t like floor plan as much as others, but it wasn’t awful.
- 1st Choice – 499 Cherokee Valley Rd, Ringgold, GA 30736, $999,900, 3762sf, 53ac, 2021. We actually liked this house more than we thought we would from looking at the online photos. It had a long gravel driveway with a couple of steepish hills, shared by another house. Extremely private with 53 acres surrounding it. The interior of the house was beautiful, probably as pretty as the one we put an offer on. The exterior had three sides of vinyl siding with concrete board on the front. And the back yard was sloped, so the pool area would need some work. In the end, when we compared it to the TN one, it fell short for us.

We needed to go grocery shopping, so we ate dinner out at a nearby Champy’s Chicken then picked up groceries at Whole Foods before going back to the RV.
After looking at the remaining homes on our list, we felt like they’d all fall short of the TN one, so we decided not to bother looking at any others. So, when we got the counter to our counter, we accepted their price and added a stipulation that if the appraisal came back lower, we would get the lower price, which they accepted! So, the contract is now binding and we will be getting inspections done next week. It’s getting real!!!
It felt great to be able to take a break from thinking about houses the next day! We went to a small church called The Gathering. They had an awesome worship team and pastor and friendly people; especially the greeter, Mike!
On our way home from church, we got a phone call from the campground saying that there was water leaking from our RV so they had turned it off at the spigot. Turns out they had NOT turned the water off for some reason, but we were glad to find that the RV was not flooded. The water was coming from a hose out of our tankless hot water heater. After googling to figure out what the hose was for, we now know that our pressure safety valve is working properly! Woohoo! When Randy looked at the pressure gauge, sure enough, it was around 100 PSI. (It’s supposed to be around 50 PSI). Not sure what happened there, but he lowered it back down to 50 and we’ll keep a better eye on it in case it creeps up again somehow. And we are very thankful there weren’t bigger issues within the innards of the RV with the high pressure!
We had passed a large furniture store on our way to the campground, so I talked Randy into going to look at furniture with me, given that we’ll be needing to buy a bunch of it within the month, if all goes well. We also wandered through a home decor store and grabbed a snack at Sweet Treats Ice Cream before heading back to the RV.
We were only about 15 minutes from Chattanooga, so I looked online and found that UTC (University of Tennessee Chattanooga) Theater was doing Blithe Spirit which sounded cute. Fortunately, we allowed extra time to find parking for the truck, which we needed! (And we were happy to not have a ticket on our windshield when we got back, haha.) The show was indeed cute; perfect for October/Halloween, with the conjuring up of a ghost.
