We did a guided tour for the Colosseum and Roman Forum. Our group’s original guide couldn’t make it for some reason, so we had a substitute named Paolo. He was a professor and an archeologist and was very enthusiastic to share all he knew about the sites! He was super knowledgable and did a great job of keeping us engaged, including giving high fives to people who knew answers to his questions, ha. I can’t imagine our original guide being any better, so I consider it a blessing to have gotten Paolo instead.

Roman Forum

Once our tour was done, we took a bus to near Aventine Hill, then walked to a few other popular tourist attractions.

We went back to the hotel to rest a bit before dinner, then caught a bus to Trastevere. We followed another one of Rick Steve’s walking tours around Trastevere, then found a spot to eat dinner, at La Canonica.
