State Parks

Burns, TN / Montgomery Bell State Park

We spent two long days looking at houses while staying 4 nights at the Montgomery Bell State Park. Unfortunately, prices haven’t gone down as much as we had hoped they would by now, but it’s nice that the homes are staying on the market longer with the higher interest rates, Read more…

Paola, KS / Hillsdale State Park

Our third and final one night stop while traveling across Kansas was at Hillsdale State Park. Unfortunately, our Garmin GPS had trouble finding this park. Randy noticed something was wrong when he saw a Dead End sign in a residential area. Luckily, there was a gravel turn-around spot near the Read more…

Milford, KS / Milford Lake State Park

We stayed one night at Milford Lake State Park for our second stop across Kansas. It was a gorgeous evening, so we walked around the campground enjoying it. Since our view of the sunset from the area near our RV had trees in the way, we decided to drive over Read more…

Scott City, KS / Lake Scott State Park

Our first one night stay while driving across Kansas was Lake Scott State Park. Since I hadn’t been sure when we’d be leaving Monument, I had not made a reservation here; but I saw online that there were plenty of spaces available for walk-ins, so we decide to give it Read more…

Orchard, CO / Jackson Lake State Park

This state park was pretty remote, so we just hung out at the campground for a couple of days. We had to drive down a bumpy dirt road to get to our section of the campground which accommodated the larger rigs. The lake was nice enough, but there was a Read more…

Monument, CO / COS / Cheyenne Mountain State Park

We dropped our RV off at the shop to get a few things worked on while back in Monument, where we could bum a room from our good friends Jason & Emily Schott. We scheduled a few weeks in the Monument / Colorado Springs area, to give us time to Read more…

Sterling, CO / North Sterling State Park

The weather was awesome when we arrived at the North Sterling State Park, and we enjoyed sitting outside near the lake. Unfortunately, we must have missed a place on the roof where sealant needed patching, because Randy noticed ripples in the rubber membrane, where air must have gotten under it Read more…

Council Bluffs, IA / Lake Manawa State Park

It was in the high 80s / low 90s while we were at the Lake Manawa State Park in Council Bluff, IA for 4 nights. Omaha, NE was only about 20 minutes away, so we spent an evening exploring there, too, not realizing the College World Series was happening. We Read more…

West Des Moines, IA / Walnut Woods State Park

Walnut Woods State Park had a very small, but quiet and peaceful, campground and a trail to the Raccoon River. We only stayed there two nights and spent a day in downtown Des Moines. If I’d realized how close the Bridges of Madison County were, we would’ve probably done that, Read more…

Zion, IL / Chicago, IL

We stayed about an hour outside of Chicago, in Zion at the Adeline Jay Geo-Karis Illinois Beach State Park. There were plenty of nice campsites here, but most were too short for us. The area that was intended for big rigs was basically just a parking lot with electrical hookups. Read more…
