We spent the past week trying to think through everything we’d need on the 2 month trip and made lots of Amazon orders to get the RV all packed up. Even with the much smaller RV, we still had plenty of room for everything we wanted to take! We were about an hour later leaving the house then we expected, but around 11am yesterday, we finally hit the road and started making our way across to the western side of the U.S.
It was supposed to take us about six hours to get to our first stop in Little Rock, AK; but we got stuck in traffic for a little over an hour, trying to get past a horrible 18-wheeler accident. (The trailer caught fire somehow and there was a large charcoal area on the road from where it burned. We couldn’t tell if anyone was hurt, since things were starting to get cleared up by the time we got past it.)
We stayed one night at the Downtown Riverside RV Park, which was right next to a large pedestrian bridge that connects Little Rock to North Little Rock. Our plan was to ride our bikes across the bridge, along the Arkansas River Trail, to find a spot near the River Market area to eat dinner. Since it was already after 6:30pm when we got settled into our campsite, we drove the truck over instead of bothering with the bikes. We ate at Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro, which had some interesting items on their menu. I got the Gypsy Burger which had a cheese sauce and bacon on it and Randy had a really good Chicken Casserole.
After dinner, we walked along the river’s edge, admiring the sculptures and unique kids’ play areas incorporated into the rocks and trees. They had a nice amphitheater, too. It was an impressive area — super pretty. Nicely done, Little Rock!

We’ve made it a habit to try to find really good ice cream shops at many of the cities we visit, and Little Rock did not disappoint with Loblolly Creamery! Super thick and creamy homemade ice cream. I got the Salted Caramel Cashew flavor and Randy got Tres Leches Cake, but I must say their Cheese Dip flavor was the weirdest flavor I’ve ever tried! I can’t imagine someone eating an entire scoop of it, but it was worth tasting a small spoonful. Just imagine freezing a nacho cheese dip and eating it cold — the ice cream tasted just like the dip, with a jalapeño kick to it. So weird!
Back at the campground, after dark, we walked out to the middle of the pedestrian bridge to see the lit up bridges across the river. Turns out, the online photos that were taken OF the bridge were prettier than the ones we got OFF the bridge. But we enjoyed the evening stroll in the pleasantly warm weather.

Unfortunately, the issue we had with the the landing gear leg raising up and leaving the RV standing on a single leg happened again when I set it to Hitch Height this morning. Ugh! At least we can work around the problem by lifting the rear legs manually, but we’ll definitely have to deal with getting that fixed when we get back to TN.

All in all, it’s been a good start to our trip!
