On our way to Winslow, AZ, we stopped by the Petrified Forest National Park in Chambers, AZ. Thankfully, Randy read about how we could drop our Fifth Wheel off at the Painted Desert Visitor Center before driving through the park, so that made it easier to stop at all the overlooks and do a few short hikes to see the sights. It was a unique landscape with amazing views and the weather was a nice temperature, but the extreme wind kept us from staying out on long hikes. We spent a few hours enjoying the park, then hooked back up and headed further west.

When Randy heard that our route to Las Vegas took us through Winslow, AZ, he really wanted to snap a pic at the “Corner of Winslow, AZ”, haha. So, I booked one night at the Homolovi State Park Campground that was about 20 minutes from town. The best part about the state park was that it was off the interstate and really quiet! The worst part could have been rattlesnakes, but thankfully, we only saw the warning sign and not the actual snake!

As we entered Winslow, we were excited to happen upon a stretch of Musical Highway that played the tune of “Standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona; such a fine sight to see”. We looped around to drive over it several time to get the correct speed and position of the tires. (It still doesn’t sound quite right & you have to turn the volume way up, but it’s still kind of cool, so I included it at the bottom of the page.)

They’ve taken advantage of having their town mentioned in the Eagles’ song, and made a cute little area for visitors to take photos. We hung around for about 30 minutes and saw lots of people coming and going to stand on the famous corner. Randy also had me drive around the block in the truck so he could take a video of “it’s a girl, my lord, in a [short] bed Ford, slowin’ down to take a look at me”. Unfortunately, he did a selfie for it and we now know his phone’s selfie camera has an issue and turns out blurry. Oh well, I included it too, just for fun.
