We stayed one night at Wilson RV Park to take a break from driving. We had planned to stay at the nearby Atlas Ad Astra Missile Silo Adventure Resort, since we planned to take a tour there; But the owner did not get electricity run as he had expected and it was too hot to want to try sleeping without A/C. We still did the tour, though, and after driving about a mile on the bumpy road to get there, we were glad we weren’t pulling the RV!! The tour was super interesting. It’s one guy building the silo out as both an educational exhibit and an Airbnb. What he has already done is impressive, and he has LOTS of ideas for the future, but it’s very slow going with mostly just him working on it as he gets funding for projects.

On our way back to the RV, we drove around Wilson, KS a bit, which took all of 2 minutes, ha. The are evidently the “Czech Capital of Kansas” and have the world’s largest hand-painted Czech egg, which is 15′ wide x 20′ tall. There was nothing really special about the RV park, but it was quiet and convenient enough.

We took a slight detour on our way through Kansas to visit with an old friend in Olathe, KS who we had not seen for at least 20 years. Unfortunately, his wife was out of town so we missed seeing her, but Chris showed around town and treated us to some great BBQ at Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que. We parked the RV in his yard and stayed one night in their beautiful home. I guess we were so distracted with the catching up that we forgot to take any photos there, though.
